Self-disorders have been identified by several authors as central to psychotic disorders. The present paper reviews the existing evidence on the specificity of self disorders in patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder through the main hetero-applied clinical tools for the assessment of self disorders (BSABS and EASE), as well as the clinical utility of these scales.
The results highlight the relevance of Self alterations in patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders, pointing them out as a central element in the clinical symptomatology of this subgroup of patients.
The presence of inherent differences between scales, as well as methodological difficulties in the assessment of abnormal experiences of the self, are a handicap for the implementation of these tools in care practice and research.
The authors propose the development of less extensive scales that overcome these limitations, as well as methodological proposals for the development of future research in this area.
